The competition was renamed as the ASEAN Football Championship from 2007 as a result of a termination of the sponsorship deal. In 2008, Japanese auto-company Suzuki bought the naming rights for the competition. Thus, the 2008's edition of the ASEAN Football Championship was changed to AFF Suzuki Cup 2008.
